‘Not so happy’ – Fabrizio Romano has some frustrating words regarding reported Chelsea target

Fabrizio Romano declared on his Here We Go podcast that any actions for Saul Niguez between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid were unlikely to occur, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.

Chelsea left it late in the window to try lasso Saul away from his Spanish home.

He emerged as a possible candidate with about a week of the transfer circus left to be completed.

The 26-year-old has been on the verge of leaving Atletico all summer, after dropping down the pecking order under Diego Simeone.

Whilst Chelsea’s name had previously been mentioned in passing, their efforts to sign the Spaniard stepped up when they knew time was running out.

A possible season long-loan switch for Saul was the offer on the table, something of a coop for the Champions League holders.

However, Romano rain checked this move, explaining why the La Liga champions were reluctant to relinquish their midfielder.

“As of now, from all parties involved, they think the Saul deal will be difficult on deadline day,” said the deadline day maestro.

“Chelsea were offering a loan with buy option, with an official proposal.

“But Atletico Madrid, without a replacement, they are not selling Saul. They don’t have a replacement now and they are not so happy with the bid.”

Atletico signed Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese last month, as well as Hertha Berlin’s Matheus Cunha half a dozen days ago.

But neither provide exact coverage for Saul’s versatility, hence the hesitancy to let him join Chelsea.

Of course, there are still a few hours left for agreements to be made.

But as it stands, it doesn’t appear Saul will be heading to Stamford Bridge this season.
