Owen Hargreaves claims that aside from two players, Thomas Tuchel can replace any player in his Chelsea team and still delivers.
The Blues have had several injury problems in the last few months but seemingly dealt with it easily.
Chelsea are still three points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table with the best defensive record as well as scoring second-most goals after 11 games.
Ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Chelsea will be without Mateo Kovacic and Ben Chilwell.
N’Golo Kante is likely to miss out too due to a knee injury.
Former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves, however, does not think these absences will have too much an impact on Chelsea.
He pointed out there are only two Chelsea players whom Tuchel heavily relies on; Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger.
“The manager and his philosophy are more important than individual players [at Chelsea] and that’s basically been proven,” he told PL Productions’ The Weekend Preview (via Optus Sport).
“It doesn’t matter who’s going to pop in.
“Mendy obviously always plays, and I think Rudiger pretty much always plays, but there are so many guys who can dip in and out.
“They’ve done it without [Christian] Pulisic, [Romelu] Lukaku, and Mason Mount, while [Hakim] Ziyech has barely played.
“Anytime he [Tuchel] slots anybody in, they’ll perform — that’s a sign of a really great coach.”
Hargreaves clearly had a point. Rudiger and Mendy are the only two players who have played every single minute in Chelsea’s Premier League campaign so far.
Jorginho is third in the list in terms of minutes played, and, surprisingly, Thiago Silva is fourth.
