Pat Nevin believes Chelsea already have a striker who could reach 20 goals next season with Lukaku

Pat Nevin backs Chelsea forwards Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz by saying they’re each capable of scoring 20 goals next season, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.

Unfortunately, the Blues attack has failed to really catch fire under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Lukaku ended up with 15 goals across all competitions this campaign, with only eight coming in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, fellow Chelsea attacker Havertz scored eight of his 11 goals this season in the league.

Despite underwhelming seasons on the goal front, ex-Chelsea player Nevin still has high hopes for two of the club’s players.

In fact, he thinks both are good enough to net 20+ next season.

“Are Romelu and Kai capable of reaching 20 in a league campaign, having not reached double figures in the Premier League this season? Of course they are, and this is what makes Thomas Tuchel’s job very interesting,” Nevin said.

Lukaku need to be examined in a different light to his teammate given he’s an out-and-out striker that was earmarked to be the club’s goal machine this year.

It’s been reported the 29-year-old Belgian frontman wants assurances about his role going into next season. However, it would be great to see him knuckle down under Tuchel and find the kind of goalscoring form he’s more than capable of.

It’s interesting to hear Nevin thinks Havertz can match 20+ goals.

The 22-year-old talent is a versatile attacker that’s still developing and isn’t a prolific scorer, but there’s no doubt his individual ability is through the roof.
