‘Priority target’ – Romano says Spurs will hold talks with £47m player in next few days

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to enter into discussions with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba in the coming days, informs the TBR. Romano took to Twitter to provide further information on Tottenham’s pursuit of a new defender.

Although new manager Ange Postecoglou officially starts his role at Spurs on July 1st, he is already assessing areas in which the squad needs improvement in the transfer market. Tottenham’s defensive performance was subpar last season, as they struggled to keep clean sheets regardless of the tactical system employed. Antonio Conte was unable to extract the best from Tottenham’s defenders, and the switch to a back-four under Cristian Stellini against Newcastle proved disastrous.

Several Tottenham defenders, including Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon, are expected to depart this summer. Romano suggests that Edmond Tapsoba has been identified as a potential addition to the squad. The Burkina Faso international is valued at £47 million, and talks with the 24-year-old will commence shortly. Romano also indicates that Tottenham may be considering other defensive targets in addition to Tapsoba.

He said: “Tosin Adarabioyo is one of the options monitored by Tottenham as new centre back as he has decided to leave Fulham.

“Edmond Tapsoba, top of the list as talks will take place in the next days.”
