Chris Sutton has advised Everton to stick with manager Sean Dyche if they want to avoid relegation this season, following the club’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Saturday (21 September). The result extended the Toffees’ winless run in the Premier League to five games, leading to increasing frustration among some supporters.
Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half goal earned Leicester a point at Goodison Park after Everton initially took the lead, sparking calls from some fans for a managerial change. However, BBC Sport pundit Sutton believes that standing by Dyche is the key to ensuring Premier League survival.
“I think it’s quite simple,” Sutton said on BBC Sport Five Live (21 September). “If Sean Dyche stays, Everton stay up. You know what you’re going to get with Sean Dyche. He’s working with a limited squad, and you can get some fanciful manager in and think there’s going to be a great turnaround in the way Everton play.”
Sutton emphasized the stability Dyche provides, despite the squad’s limitations, and expressed optimism for improvement, particularly with key players like Jarrad Branthwaite returning. “If you look at last season, you get Branthwaite back in, then I think things will improve,” he added.
With Everton still searching for their first win of the season, Sutton’s advice suggests patience may be essential for the club to steer clear of a relegation battle.
