Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Tottenham are considering a bid to bring Eriksen back to North London, just one year after he left in a cut-price deal to Inter Milan.

The Dane has struggled since his Italian switch and Jose Mourinho is said to still be a believer in his talents.

“I would say we also lost a fantastic player,” Mourinho told Football.London last year after Eriksen’s departure. “Because people cannot judge Christian for the last season, he has to be judged for six seasons where he showed his club and the Premier League his top quality.”

This month could see Tottenham let Dele Alli leave the club with former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino keen on a reunion at PSG. Eriksen would be seen as the perfect replacement for a player with whom he shares several similar characteristics.

Eriksen left Tottenham with just six months left on his contract last year in a deal worth around £17 million (BBC). However, the 28-year-old has struggled to win over boss Antonio Conte and it is widely believed he could be heading out of the club on loan in the coming weeks.

Tottenham would face a battle to sign Eriksen, with PSG said to be keen on another former Pochettino favourite. Several Premier League rivals are said to be keeping tabs.

Eriksen left Tottenham for a new challenge so it is easy to see why he might not consider a return to the club a step forward in his career.

But sometimes, to go forward, you need to take a step back. Tottenham would undoubtedly relish the chance to have an Eriksen with a point to prove in their midst.
