Roy Keane makes Premier League title prediction after Liverpool and Man City close in on Chelsea

Roy Keane has predicted Manchester City will win the Premier League title this season as the champions gained two points on Chelsea this weekend.

The Blues played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, with Jorginho ensuring the points were shared at Stamford Bridge with a 69th minute penalty following Jadon Sancho’s opener.

Meanwhile, Liverpool picked up a crucial three points on Saturday afternoon with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Southampton at Anfield, while Manchester City secured a 2-1 win against West Ham United on Sunday.

Chelsea remain top of the Premier League table, but are now just one point clear of Man City and two ahead of the Reds.

Keane, when speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of Chelsea’s draw with Man United, thinks Man City will retain their Premier League title this season.

He said: “I wrote off City last year and regretted it because they turned it on and won it so easily. As brilliant as Chelsea and Liverpool are I think at the moment in time I’d go with City.”

His Sky Sports colleague and former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said: “It’s difficult to say. I think it’s going to be tight. I think all three are very, very close and all three can win it. Liverpool are very strong, Man City can go and win 16 in a row. You’re pushing me. I would love Chelsea to win it, but it’s not going to be that easy.”

Jamie Carragher also shared his prediction, agreeing with Keane that it will be Man City for the second season on the bounce.

The former Liverpool defender said: “Liverpool have dropped silly points this season but I’m with Roy I’d just go with Man City.

“Liverpool kept clean sheets but looked open City defensively look really strong. Liverpool are scoring all the goals but I’d just go with City at this moment in time.”

It’s definitely not all doom and gloom for Chelsea, who remain at the summit of the league table and are already through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League after the win versus Juventus earlier in the week.
