‘Sloppy goals’ – David Moyes criticises West Ham ace after Liverpool defeat

After Cody Gakpo’s long-range strike brought Liverpool level against West Ham, manager David Moyes hinted at Nayef Aguerd for failing to close him down, writes the HammerNews.

Although the Hammers took an early lead through a Lucas Paqueta goal, they ultimately lost 2-1 to the Reds, a disappointing outcome compounded by the referee and VAR’s failure to award them a late penalty when Thiago clearly handled the ball inside the penalty area. Despite Liverpool’s dominant possession, West Ham had ample opportunities to secure a draw, and Moyes believes that his team should not have conceded two goals.

Following West Ham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool at the London Stadium in the Premier League last night, the Scot spoke to the media. When asked if he believed his team should have gained something from the match, Moyes replied, “I thought we conceded two sloppy goals, from our perspective. We had the chance to block the first one.”

Moyes expressed his discontent with Aguerd, who was the closest player to Gakpo before the Dutchman took his shot. Despite this, the Morocco international, who was signed for £28 million from Rennes during the summer transfer window, has been a tremendous addition to Moyes’s team at the London Stadium, showcasing exceptional performances overall. In fact, Aguerd once again played remarkably well last night against Liverpool.
