Spurs fans can be sure, at least for January: Fabrizio Romano delivers transfer claim over Ndombele future
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur might have a fight on their hands to keep Tanguy Ndombele next summer.
Ndombele joined Spurs for a club-record £63 million in the summer of 2019.
And despite a lukewarm first season at Tottenham, which ended in a reported falling out between him and Jose Mourinho, the France international has bounced back in a big way.
This season, the former Lyon midfielder is a vital player for Mourinho, who even admitted last week that the Lilywhites ‘missed’ the star during a defeat at Antwerp, which sort of epitomises his growing importance under the Portuguese coach these days.
But Romano has revealed on his Hero We Go podcast [released 04/11] that the Camp Nou club are monitoring him and could make a move in the summer of 2021.
With January only a couple of months away, some Tottenham fans might fear an earlier approach, but the Italian journalist, who was invariably right in most of his transfer claims during the summer, insisted that he wouldn’t be leaving North London during the winter.
He said on the podcast: “Barcelona are considering a move for Ndombele next summer. But for next January, Tottenham fans can be sure he is not going anywhere.”
Will Ndombele even want to join the Spanish giants next summer? Right now, Barca, under Ronald Koeman, are looking something of a spent force and without Lionel Messi – who could well leave at the first available opportunity – then there wouldn’t be much drawing the Frenchman to Catalunya.
On the flip side, Tottenham are tipped to be the dark horses for the Premier League title this season and even if Ndombele gets them close, while maintaining the form he has shown since August, he probably isn’t going to have the same desire to leave North London as he did last summer.
