Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has stated that Everton perform significantly better with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the team compared to Neal Maupay.
The Toffees have faced difficulties in scoring goals throughout the season, regardless of whether it is Calvert-Lewin or Maupay playing. As reported by the BBC, Maupay joined Everton from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the season for a fee of £15m. The intention behind bringing in the French forward was to provide competition for Calvert-Lewin, who has been plagued by injuries in recent years.
According to Transfermarkt, Calvert-Lewin has been absent from 30 games in the last two seasons due to injury. Although the England international played in Sean Dyche’s first match as manager, he missed the subsequent ten games. However, when Maupay filled in, the results were not favorable. Prior to their recent game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the former Brentford striker had only scored one goal in 26 Premier League appearances this season, as reported by FBref.
Everton, currently fighting to maintain their position in the top flight, are facing various issues within the team, and the lack of goals is undoubtedly one of them. Taylor has highlighted a notable contrast in Everton’s performance with Calvert-Lewin compared to Maupay.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Calvert-Lewin is integral. When we’ve seen him in much better physical condition in the past few weeks, we can see what an asset he can be.
“He can hold it up, he can run in behind, he can do it all really. I still don’t rate him as a top, top level striker. People were talking about moves to Arsenal and Newcastle for £50m and I don’t quite see that.
“I think Everton is a great club really for Calvert-Lewin. The difference is stark (between him and Maupay), you’ve seen what an impact he’s had on Everton.”
