Antonio Rudiger has posted a heartfelt goodbye message ahead of his summer exit, which has prompted responses from the likes of Reece James and John Terry, writes the Chelsea Chronicle.
Rudiger, 29, will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after five years as a Blues player.
The German defender is departing as a huge fan favourite due to his full-blooded commitment on the pitch, with his game really elevated to dizzy heights since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival as manager 18 months ago.
Rudiger uploaded a post on Instagram thanking Chelsea supporters, which includes a link to a longer video of him discussing his imminent departure.
The centre-back is now recognised by most as one of the top defenders currently playing in the game, so he’s exiting at the very peak of his powers to leave behind a major hole.
Blues legend Terry, along with current Chelsea star James, are among those to react to Rudiger’s post.
One of the biggest things this Chelsea side will miss about Rudiger is his aggression and overall authority in games.
If there are any bust-ups during matches, you can be sure that Rudiger will be one of the first to arrive on the scene to support his teammates.
Let’s see which current Chelsea players have the fight in them to step up to the plate.
22-year-old James, who definitely looks like captain material further down the line, is another Blues star that won’t shy away from battles.
Interestingly, James’ father said last year his son would love to be club captain at Stamford Bridge. It’s definitely something that Tuchel should have in the back of his mind.
