‘Terrible’ – Alan Shearer and Ian Wright slam Everton duo

Conor Coady and James Tarkowski were criticized for their “terrible” defending by Alan Shearer during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday, as relays the HITC. Meanwhile, Ian Wright praised Villa’s performance and acknowledged that they deserved the victory against the struggling Everton side.

Wright also admitted that Unai Emery’s men deserved something from their loss to Arsenal last week. Although Aston Villa has been conceding heavily on their home turf, they have been defensively solid on the road, as evidenced by another clean sheet at Goodison Park.

Everton’s lack of scoring power was evident, even with Neal Maupay starting the game, as he has only scored one goal so far.

Shearer said: “I think if you look at the reaction of the Everton players, it sort of tells you that they know it was a penalty. Watkins sticks it away pretty well. Straight down the middle.

“That gets them the goal and then go on to get another. Everton’s big problem is that they just can’t score goals. They don’t get into positions. A good win for Villa, they knew if they get one, then it was always going to be tough for Everton.

“Buendia there, it was Coady and Tarkowski, it’s terrible defending, from both of them.”
