‘That’s what I did’ – Harry Kane reacts to ongoing criticism over Abdoulaye Doucoure red card

Harry Kane has responded to criticism regarding his involvement in the red card given to Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure during a recent Premier League match, writes the 90min.

Doucoure was sent off during the game at Goodison Park after making contact with Kane’s face, which prompted the Spurs player to throw himself in the opposite direction and fall to the ground. Despite the fact that both teams have played matches since then – with Tottenham winning against Brighton thanks to some questionable refereeing decisions and Everton losing to Manchester United – the incident has continued to be discussed, and Kane has once again been asked about it.

After scoring the decisive goal in Tottenham’s victory over Brighton, which kept their top-four aspirations alive, Harry Kane addressed the controversy surrounding his involvement in Abdoulaye Doucoure’s red card against Everton, stating that he has not heard anyone say it was not a deserved punishment. He acknowledged that differing opinions are part of the game and that his main focus was on contributing to the team’s success in the match at hand.

“I’ve not heard anyone say it was not a red card,” he said.

“At the end of the day that’s football, that’s the way it goes and people have their opinions. My focus was on trying to help the team in this game and that’s what I did.”
