The reason Patterson was left out of Everton squad against Tottenham Hotspur

Nathan Patterson was excluded from Everton’s squad in the match against Tottenham Hotspur due to selection reasons, informs the LiverpoolWorld.

Despite making three appearances for the Toffees’ under-21s and two substitute appearances for Scotland during the international break, the right-back was not included in the team for the Goodison Park clash. This is in spite of recovering from a medial ligament injury sustained in a 4-1 defeat to Brighton earlier in the year. Instead, Seamus Coleman was selected to start on the right-hand side of the back four, while substitutes included defenders Conor Coady, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate, and Vitalii Mykolenko.

In the 90th minute of the match, centre-back Michael Keane scored an impressive goal that allowed Everton to secure a point and move out of the Premier League relegation zone. Keane’s goal effectively cancelled out Harry Kane’s penalty. Following the game, when asked about Nathan Patterson’s absence from the squad, an optimistic Sean Dyche made a joke by saying that there are only a limited number of players that can be included on the bench.

Patterson, who was acquired by Everton from Rangers in January 2022 for a fee of up to £16 million, has made 15 appearances for the team this season.

“There are only so many [players] you can put in a second, you know. I don’t know if you have noticed!”
