Thibaut Courtois aims cheeky dig at Tottenham as he gives verdict on Gareth Bale transfer

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois still clearly holds a place in his heart for his former team Chelsea given his comments on Gareth Bale’s transfer to their London rivals Tottenham, as cited by Mirror.

The Belgian No.1 spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge before making the move to Madrid in 2018, where Bale became one of his teammates.

The Welsh forward completed a sensational return to Spurs on a loan deal until the end of the season during the summer transfer window, and could be in line to make his debut against West Ham this weekend.

And speaking to Spanish outlet Cadena Ser, Courtois wished Bale all the best – but couldn’t resist a cheeky dig at his new club.

“What one says to the coach is personal,” Courtois said with reference to Bale’s up-and-down relationship with Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.

“I don’t know what he thought, but then they are decisions that each one makes.

“I’ve had a good relationship with Gareth and I wish him the best of luck this year, even if he’s not playing for the good team in London. Gareth is a great player.”

Bale’s second debut for Spurs has been delayed up until now as he was carrying a niggling injury when he first joined in September.

He has been working hard behind the scenes, however, and continued his rehabilitation after being left out of the Wales squad during the international break.

It is said both his drive and quality have been first-class, however, and that he is proving an inspiration for some of the younger members of the team such as winger Jack Clarke and midfielder Harvey White.

He is likely to at least make the bench in the game against the Hammers on Sunday, and is reportedly nearing a return to full fitness.
