Thilo Kehrer Unintentionally Reveals the Reasons Behind his Struggles at West Ham United

Thilo Kehrer shed light on his challenging stint at West Ham United and explained the reasons behind his struggles to make an impact at the London Stadium. The German international, who joined West Ham from Paris Saint-Germain for £13 million in the summer of 2022, managed to accumulate just 3,337 minutes under manager David Moyes.

Kehrer’s tenure with the Hammers was marred by difficulties, leading to his loan move to Monaco in January. The Ligue 1 side holds an obligation to purchase him for approximately £10 million, contingent on his fulfilling a specified number of games.

While acknowledging that Kehrer wasn’t necessarily a subpar player, it became evident that the Premier League was not the ideal fit for him. The player himself hinted at additional challenges during his time at West Ham, which he discussed during the interview with Nice-Matin.

The versatile defender emphasized that his preferred position is in the center of the defense, as opposed to the full-back role he often occupied at West Ham:

“I’m strongest in the centre, but when the position changes, it’s a bit more difficult. I’m not saying that I wasn’t at my best, but in certain situations I lacked a bit of rhythm and automatism. Of course, when you play several matches in the same position, it helps you to get your bearings and anticipate things properly.”
