Tottenham initiate direct negotiations with Postecoglou’s top target valued at £26 million

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur has initiated direct negotiations with Wolfsburg for their top transfer target, Micky van de Ven, reports the Glasgow Times.

The 22-year-old defender is said to be a priority signing for Ange Postecoglou, although Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba remains an alternative option. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms that talks are underway with Wolfsburg regarding a potential move to North London. Previous reports from Germany indicated that it would require at least £26 million (€30 million) to secure the defender’s services this summer.

However, Romano suggests that the cost could be lower than what it would take to sign Tapsoba. Postecoglou has already secured the signings of Dejan Kulusevski and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, while a potential deal for James Maddison from Leicester City is reportedly nearing completion as part of the ongoing summer revamp.

Romano tweeted: “Tottenham have opened direct talks with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven. Dutch centre back is among top targets. Verbal proposal set to be submitted as van de Ven is keen on the move. Edmond Tapsoba remains among options on Spurs list — but he’s more expensive.”
