Tottenham interested in 32-year-old Champions League-winning German star
According to German publication BILD (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Bayern Munich’s seasoned defender Jerome Boateng.
The 32-year-old came through the youth ranks at German outfit Hertha Berlin. He left the club for Hamburger SV in 2007 and after a three-year stint at the club, he moved to Manchester City in 2010. Boateng lasted just one season in England, however, returning to Germany with Bayern Munich in 2011.
Since joining Die Roten, the 32-year-old has won a host of titles and trophies over the past decade, including the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League last season. However, his future at the club is surrounding with uncertainty, with him in the final year of his contract of the club.
The defender can speak to clubs from outside Germany over a pre-contract agreement for a free transfer, starting in January. And now, it is being claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in making a swoop for the 32-year-old Boateng. (h/t Football.london)
As per Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have been tracking the seasoned campaigner since 2017.
While Tottenham did strengthen the defence with Joe Rodon in the summer transfer window, adding another centre-half wouldn’t be the worst idea, considering Davinson Sanchez’s recent form. Boateng, however, might not be the ideal option for the club.
