Mourinho transcript

The Tottenham head coach faced the media ahead of the Europa League second leg tie at home to Wolfsberger AC and one of the biggest talking points from his press conference was a passional speech about his job.

“Thank god I am not the manager I was! Thank god! Because if there is no evolution in us I also want to believe that to think you are a better journalist today than you were 10 years ago or so,” Mourinho said. Thank god!

“Probably I agree with you, I would not be as calm and confident and in control of my emotions because during my career I had sometimes problems not in relation to results.

“I am calm. I am in control of my emotions and I can not switch on and switch off, I am happy and unhappy. My nature does not change. I lose a game and of course I am not happy. But maturity hopefully helps.

“I feel very confident and I believe we are going to improve and I believe that I will be in Tottenham’s history for the good reasons and not for the bad reasons.”

Six youngsters called up

With Tottenham 4-1 up in the tie, some of the club’s younger players can get their opportunity and Mourinho has added two new faces to the four youngsters who were involved in training before the first leg.

Dean Rastrick and Dilan Markanday have joined Dennis Cirkin, Jamie Bowden, Marcel Lavinier, and Dane Scarlett in training with the first-team squad and Mourinho has revealed who will be amongst the substitutes against Wolfsberger.

“Scarlett is again going to be on the bench, Marcel Lavinier also on the bench, Nile on the bench, quite a beautiful story as he arrived at the club almost as a baby,” Mourinho said.

“Also Dilan on the bench. It’s great for the kids to be involved and, if possible, to get some minutes would be even better.”

Spurs players ‘bored and frustrated’ with Mourinho’s methods

Speaking of training, Tottenham players have reportedly become bored by the methods deployed by Mourinho and long for the return of sessions held by Mauricio Pochettino.

That is according to the Athletic, who claim that Mourinho’s ways have split the dressing room with an increasing amount of players unhappy with the way he works.

Furthermore, the report states that Spurs focus too much on trying to perfect their defensive play and not making mistakes, leading to many players becoming ‘bored and frustrated’.
