Sean Dyche, has expressed his support for James Garner’s development as a player, acknowledging that young players like Garner and Nathan Patterson are being forced to “fast-track” their development under challenging circumstances, writes the LiverpoolEcho.
Garner made his first Premier League start for Everton in their 3-1 defeat to Fulham, following his move from Manchester United last summer.
Additionally, Scotland international Patterson, who was also born in 2001, came off the bench during the match. Dyche believes that the two young players are having to learn their trade in a tough environment. Despite the circumstances, Dyche was pleased with Garner’s performance and his effort to perform well and stick to the basics.
“He’ll grow and learn as time goes on. Obviously at the minute it’s going to be a fast-track learning but there are a few players out there – Patto is a young player still, you forget that – they’re developing players, they’re not rounded Premier League bona fide players, they’ve got to develop and learn about that.
“Again, these are tough times for them to learn through but that’s the challenge.”
Following his Everton debut against his previous club on October 9, Garner came off the bench in six consecutive Premier League games before earning his first start in the Carabao Cup exit at Bournemouth, where Frank Lampard made wholesale changes to the team.
However, his outing at the Vitality Stadium was cut short due to a back injury, and he remained out of action until he was named in the first-team squad for the match against Nottingham Forest on March 5, where he spent a year and a half on loan from his parent club.
