According to iNews, there is an increasing likelihood that Everton will exercise a one-year extension option in Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract, thanks to his impressive performances under Sean Dyche, as reports the GN.
Doucoure had previously been close to leaving Goodison Park due to a falling out with former manager Frank Lampard, which resulted in him being excluded from the first-team. However, since Dyche’s appointment, Doucoure has been given a fresh start and has become a key player for the team.
The club reportedly has made a decision on his future, provided they do not get relegated, as his contract is set to expire in the summer.
In January, Doucoure was put up for sale, but when Lampard departed, the situation changed. With just a few months left on his contract, the club has the option to extend it for another 12 months, and according to iNews, they are likely to do so if they avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Although it is uncommon for a player to earn a new contract based on a few performances, Doucoure has proven to be deserving of one. Despite being frequently left out of the team earlier in the season under Lampard, he remained determined and recovered from injury to stay in the running.
