‘Under the previous manager…’ – Doucoure reportedly agrees extension as new Dyche details revealed

According to sources from Football Insider, Everton has exercised a 12-month extension clause in Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract. The 30-year-old midfielder’s initial deal, which was signed when he joined from Watford in a £20m transfer in 2020, was scheduled to end at the conclusion of this season. However, Everton has chosen to activate a club option to extend his contract, ensuring that Doucoure will remain with the club until the summer of 2024.

Following Sean Dyche’s appointment in February, the Mali international has secured a contract extension after proving himself as a crucial player. Previously, he had fallen out of favor under Frank Lampard, and there were plans to make him available for transfer in the January window if any concrete offers arose. However, Doucoure has been a consistent starter in every game under Dyche, except for the matches he missed due to a three-match suspension for a red card against Tottenham.

According to Football Insider, the decision to retain the midfielder was solely entrusted to the manager by director of football Kevin Thelwell. Everton now hopes that Doucoure will continue to make significant contributions in the Premier League next season, as they aim to avoid relegation on the tense final day of the season.

However, in the event of unfavorable results, the option to generate some funds through his potential sale will also be available. Doucoure recently expressed his gratitude to Dyche for reintegrating him into the team, stating, “Now, I feel good, and I like helping the team.”

“I’ve always been the same player. Under the previous manager, it was the first time that I hadn’t played as much.

“Sean Dyche came in, and he saw the strengths and qualities that I’ve always had, and I feel very happy working under him. It’s great to help the team.”
