‘We have to be honest’ – Abdoulaye Doucoure makes honest admission

Abdoulaye Doucoure has stated that he and his Everton teammates believe that they can avoid relegation, and that he is solely focused on ensuring that the club remains in the Premier League, writes the LiverpoolEcho.

The Toffees’ recent 4-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, which saw them slip to second bottom and two points adrift of safety, was a demoralizing result for the team. This defeat extended Everton’s winless streak to six games, with their last victory coming against Brentford in March.

Doucoure expressed his confidence ahead of Everton’s crucial match against Leicester City, stating that the team still believes they can avoid relegation. The midfielder acknowledged that the recent loss to Newcastle United was a major setback, but emphasized the importance of moving on quickly. Despite the defeat, Doucoure stressed that the team is still fighting for their survival and that their only focus is on staying in the Premier League.

“We have to be honest and not feel sorry for ourselves. We have to fight like we did in the first half today. If you do that, you have more chance to win games.”

“It is on my mind every day. It’s what we do for our life. Everton is massive for everyone.

“It is so important for the fans and for the people who work for the club. We, the players, don’t want to take the team down; it’s up to us to keep the club up.”
