West Ham has made an inquiry regarding Dutch midfielder who contributed to 19 goals last season

West Ham United recently made an approach to AZ Alkmaar inquiring about the availability of Tijjani Reijnders, a 24-year-old Dutch midfielder, relays the Hard Tackle.

According to a report from Italian outlet Sport Italia, West Ham United is showing interest in Reijnders, joining several other Premier League clubs in pursuit of the talented player. The Hammers have taken the initiative to conduct a thorough enquiry with AZ Alkmaar regarding the midfielder’s availability. Reijnders, originally from Zwolle, developed his skills at five different Dutch clubs, including three from his hometown.

After graduating from the PEC Zwolle Academy, he had to patiently wait for his opportunity to become a regular in the first team. However, he has emerged as a prominent player in recent years. The 2022/23 season proved to be Reijnders’s most impressive so far with AZ Alkmaar, as he contributed to 19 goals in 54 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists. This progress has attracted the attention of several clubs, including West Ham United.

West Ham United is set to actively participate in the summer transfer market to secure the services of at least one midfielder. The impending departure of club captain Declan Rice, who will soon join Arsenal in a record-breaking deal, leaves a significant void in the West Ham midfield. Therefore, the London club needs to make a significant investment in acquiring a top-quality midfielder during the upcoming transfer window.

Several potential candidates, including Denis Zakaria, have emerged as potential targets for West Ham’s summer signings. However, Tijjani Reijnders is also a viable option worth considering for the UEFA Europa Conference League champions. West Ham has taken the initiative to approach AZ Alkmaar and submit an enquiry regarding the availability of the 24-year-old Dutchman. While Reijnders may not serve as a direct replacement for Declan Rice, his impressive productivity would introduce a new dimension to West Ham’s style of play. Given West Ham’s struggles in scoring goals last season, the addition of Reijnders, who contributed to 19 goals in his previous campaign with AZ Alkmaar, could prove to be a valuable asset.
