West Ham make approach to sign 16-goal striker from Serie A

La Citta di Salerno reports that West Ham has made a move to acquire Boulaye Dia, who was on loan at Salernitana from Villarreal last season, writes the WHZ. The Italian publication emphasizes that Salernitana is eager to retain the 26-year-old striker, who impressively scored 16 goals in 33 Serie A matches in the previous campaign.

However, West Ham’s and Everton’s interest in Dia is posing a threat to Salernitana’s pursuit. According to La Citta di Salerno, both Premier League clubs are enticed by Dia’s €25 million release clause.

Dia’s remarkable performance of 16 goals and six assists in the Italian top flight last season should not be underestimated, especially considering that he achieved these numbers while playing for a club that finished 15th in the table. Furthermore, his price tag of £21 million is relatively low in today’s market.

If West Ham allows star midfielder Declan Rice to leave the London Stadium for a substantial fee during the summer transfer window, the Hammers should have sufficient funds available for new signings in the upcoming months.

“Strong signals: The Campania club would like to keep their golden boy who, however, is the object of desire, with the €25million clause that is tempting (Naples, Lazio, Inter, West Ham and Everton have taken information),” according to La Citta di Salerno.
