West Ham’s pursuit of ex-Chelsea star: A PL return on the horizon

West Ham United is reportedly among the clubs closely monitoring the possibility of bringing striker Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League, relays the WHZ. Calcio Mercato, an Italian news outlet, has revealed that West Ham is determined to acquire more information regarding the English striker’s potential return to the English top flight. Other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Fulham, and Brentford, are also said to be interested in Abraham’s services, while even his former club Chelsea is considered a possibility.

Abraham, 26, was sold by Chelsea to Serie A side Roma for £34 million just over two years ago. He has yet to feature in the 2023/24 season as he continues his recovery from an ACL tear sustained late last season. While Roma’s intention is to sell him in January, the reported injury has led to uncertainties regarding his asking price.

West Ham’s need for a reliable striker has become more evident as the season has progressed. Michail Antonio’s strong early-season form has waned, leaving the club searching for alternatives to lead the attack. Although Mohammed Kudus has been deployed as a central forward, it is not his natural position. Currently, Jarrod Bowen is the primary goal threat for the Hammers.

The acquisition of Danny Ings last January has not fulfilled expectations, and the club is keen to avoid repeating past transfer missteps. Tammy Abraham, with his Premier League experience and goal-scoring ability, could be a valuable addition. However, concerns exist about his post-injury form and adaptation. Whether West Ham decides to make a move will likely depend on the striker’s adjusted price.

While Abraham has demonstrated his capabilities in the Premier League, any midseason acquisition for West Ham must carefully weigh the potential risks and rewards. If the pursuit of Abraham materializes, it could provide the club with the striking solution it desperately seeks.
